I am married to a wonderfully supportive man, I have eight beautiful children that I homeschool. I knit, I sew, I cook, and generally just like to be creative.
My passion for birth started many years ago when I became pregnant with my oldest child. Something deep inside me told me birth didn’t have to be a horrid event like the media had portrayed it.
I delved into every birth related text I could get my hands on and learned all I could about natural childbirth. I had a beautiful labor and delivery and have been self educating ever since. I received certification through CAPPA as a labor doula and childbirth educator. I also went through CAPPA's Lactation Counselor training. I spent about eight years as a labor doula before starting on my path of midwifery.
I choose the traditional apprenticeship method for my midwifery training mainly because it has worked for many a generation, and I learn best by doing. I spent a year with a midwife in Oklahoma city and a year with a midwife in Arkansas. These two years of apprenticing gave me the opportunity to experience true midwifery, not just read about it. I had many wonderful experiences and attended more than fifty births acting as primary midwife for twenty of them.
My goal as a midwife is to help women and their families realize that birth is not something to be feared, that God has endowed every woman with the strength and power to naturally birth her child. I hope that with loving guidance I can bring families closer together, help women feel confidant in their roles as mothers and encourage fathers to support and guide their families.
